But it has its challenges. Though Georgia cancer centers currently offer more clinical trials than ever in our history, participation in these trials – particularly among certain populations – is low.
Georgia CORE, with financial support from partners, is working to discover ways to increase participation in cancer clinical trials among under-resourced and rural populations in Georgia. Georgia Cancer Trial Finders is a piloted education and awareness effort to help more Georgians find their way to cancer clinical trials in our state. (Have a patient who may be eligible for a trial? The program focuses primarily on rural and under-resourced Georgians, working to:
⇒ Deepen understanding of cancer clinical trials as potential new treatments ⇒ Encourage conversations about clinical trials between healthcare providers and patients ⇒ Provide access to navigators specifically to help patients and providers find cancer clinical trials ⇒ Ensure that our statewide trial database is current and inclusive of all cancer clinical trials open at Georgia institutions
For the program to be successful, Georgia CORE is engaging with crucial research personnel at each of the state’s more than 45 Commission on Cancer sites, following the nonprofit’s mission of encouraging collaboration and increasing cutting-edge cancer research in the state.
