Northside Hospital First in Georgia to Earn The Joint Commission’s Quality Lung Cancer Care Certification

7/27/2016, Katherine Watson

Northside Hospital in Atlanta has earned The Joint Commission’s (TJC) Gold Seal of Approval® for Lung Cancer Disease Specific Care (DSC) Certification.  Northside is the first hospital in Georgia, and only the 6th hospital in the United States, to receive DSC Certification for Lung Cancer from TJC.

“This certification is a direct result of the unsurpassed expertise, hard work and commitment by the board-certified physicians, specially trained nurses and other health care professionals who make up Northside’s Lung Cancer Program,” said Patti Owen, MN, RN, director, Northside Hospital Cancer Institute.  “Lung cancer is one of the most frequently treated types of cancer at Northside and I am proud that our efforts to provide the best care possible have been recognized.”

The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care, according to TJC.  Northside received its two-year Lung Cancer DSC Certification after undergoing a voluntary and rigorous on-site evaluation, demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for lung cancer care.

As a Southeastern leader in the treatment of lung cancer, Northside offers a comprehensive continuum of care to treat the disease – from diagnosis to treatment, support and survivorship.  A multidisciplinary team of experts in thoracic surgery, medical and radiation oncology, pulmonology, radiology and pathology delivers extraordinary care, follow-ups and outcomes that empower Northside’s patients every step of their journey.
