New Program Aims to Produce More Doctors for Georgia

The University System of Georgia is stepping up its efforts to increase graduate medical education programs at hospitals to address an impending physician shortage that could cripple the state’s health-care system. USG is looking to increase the number of residents enrolled in the state’s graduate medical education (GME) programs by about 400 by 2022. Currently the state has about 2,100 residents.
